The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Melbourne facilitated a trade delegation from the Sri Lanka–Australia–New Zealand Business Council (SLANBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) to Victoria and arranged a business meeting with officials of Global Victoria on 24 August 2026 at the Victorian Investment Centre.

The multi-sector delegation, representing IT, BPO, logistics, agriculture, venture capital, travel and tourism, financial services, food and energy, visited Victoria from 24–27 August 2026 with the objective of renewing trade partnerships and showcasing emerging opportunities in Sri Lanka while reinforcing institutional links between government and business sectors in both countries. The visit was particularly significant as it marked the first visit to Victoria by a premier Sri Lankan business chamber delegation in 15 years.

The delegation engaged with Global Victoria officials to explore avenues for strengthening commercial partnerships and facilitating connections with Victorian businesses. Senior Regional Manager, South Asia & META, Global Victoria, James Edwards, delivered a comprehensive presentation on Victoria–Sri Lanka economic relations, while Market Leader, India & MENA, International Investment, Nik Guruprasd, spoke on Victoria’s investment strengths. Senior Trade Manager, Food & Fibre Exports, Global Victoria, Ivan Veljkovic, provided an overview of Victoria’s food and fibre strengths. The discussions provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange perspectives on emerging sectors and explore possibilities for enhanced business collaboration, investment and trade engagement between Sri Lanka and Victoria.

As part of the Melbourne programme, the Consulate General also facilitated a meeting between the visiting delegation and the Executive Committee Members of the Sri Lanka–Australia Business Council on 25 August 2026. The interaction provided a valuable platform to exchange views and explore potential areas of cooperation.

The CA Sri Lanka – Australia Chapter Inc also organised a business networking event on 26 August 2026, bringing together members of the Chapter, representatives of the visiting delegation and officials of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka. The event provided a platform for professional interaction and the exchange of business ideas, while highlighting the role of Sri Lankan professional and business networks in Australia in supporting closer economic engagement between Sri Lanka and Australia.
