The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Netherlands, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), successfully participated in the Embassy Festival 2026, held on 5 September 2026 at Lange Voorhout in The Hague.

The Embassy Festival is a premier multicultural event in the Netherlands. The 2026 edition featured representatives from nearly 50 countries and their Embassies, showcasing their unique cultures, traditional cuisines, music, arts and customs, and attracting more than 70,000 Dutch and international visitors.

The Embassy organised a dedicated Sri Lanka Pavilion, which served as a platform to showcase Sri Lanka as a travel destination. The pavilion highlighted Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage, authentic cuisine, beverages and traditional handicrafts. Visitors expressed keen interest in discovering Sri Lanka and learning more about its tourism offerings, making the Sri Lanka Pavilion one of the most sought-after stalls at the event.

To promote Sri Lanka as a travel destination, a large commercial screen displayed videos showcasing the country’s scenic landscapes, iconic landmarks and travel experiences. Tourism promotional materials, including brochures, destination guides and maps, were also distributed to provide visitors with travel information.

Authentic Sri Lankan cuisine was a major attraction at the pavilion. Visitors enjoyed traditional dishes such as yellow rice and curry, kottu, egg hoppers, string hoppers served with coconut chutney, lentil vadai, cutlets, roti with lunu miris, as well as sweet delicacies such as lawariya and naran kawum. Ceylon Tea and Faluda were also in high demand.

The pavilion also showcased a selection of Sri Lankan handicrafts, including traditional wooden masks, jewellery, tote bags, leather items, and products made from coconut shells and wood.

As part of the interactive festival experience, the Sri Lanka Pavilion also participated in the Activity Passport initiative of the Embassy Festival. The initiative encouraged visitors to explore different traditions, participate in traditional Sri Lankan games and answer questions about Sri Lanka.
