The Sultan of Perak, His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Shah, received Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, Dharshana M. Perera, on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, at the Istana Perak (Perak Palace).

The High Commissioner’s engagement with Sultan Nazrin Shah was part of an initiative to invigorate collaboration with Malaysia’s vibrant regions towards further strengthening bilateral relations.

The High Commissioner reflected on the vision of Sultan Nazrin Shah, which encompasses good governance, economic inclusivity and shared prosperity, education and social empowerment. He noted that these principles resonated with Sri Lanka’s contemporary “Clean Sri Lanka” framework, which encompasses the social, environmental and ethical pillars of governance and development.

The Sultan and High Commissioner Perera exchanged insights on several areas of mutual interest, including the historical ties founded on longstanding people-to-people engagement, Sri Lanka’s multifaceted engagement with Malaysia and areas of future cooperation that could contribute to the next phase of bilateral relations. The conversation also reflected on the significant role of the Sri Lankan-origin community in the early development of Perak dating back to the 1880s, the region’s rich history, global challenges and the need for enhanced South–South cooperation. The value of documenting the historical people-to-people links in Perak, founded on Ceylonese migration and the Malaysian-Sinhalese community, as well as enhancing economic engagement through technology and innovation, was also discussed.

The Sultan conveyed his good wishes to the High Commissioner for a rewarding tenure in Malaysia and agreed to continue engagement.
