Ambassador Meets Chairman of the Shura Council of Bahrain

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Bahrain, Shanika Dissanayake called on Chairman of the Shura Council of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh on 16 August 2026.

The meeting focused on reinforcing the longstanding friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Bahrain, particularly in parliamentary cooperation, trade, investment and tourism.

Ambassador Shanika Dissanayake highlighted Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and growing trade relations with Bahrain, underscoring opportunities for Bahraini investors in Sri Lanka. The Ambassador further briefed that Sri Lanka would, for the first time, participate in Bahrain’s premier trade exhibition, Jewellery Arabia, with a dedicated Sri Lanka Pavilion. Tourism cooperation and enhanced people-to-people exchanges were also discussed, with particular emphasis on the growing number of Bahraini visitors to Sri Lanka and the critical role of air connectivity in facilitating travel and trade.

The discussions also underscored the significance of parliamentary linkages and the recent revival of the Sri Lanka–Bahrain Parliamentary Friendship Association. Both sides discussed enhancing engagement between the legislatures of the two countries, including reciprocal visits. Minister Madhuka Silva was also associated with the meeting.
